Polycystic Ovary Syndrome - Causes, Symptoms and Treatments

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) has become a concern of the recent generation which has struck major part of the women society leading to infertility, hirsutism, cardiac problems, acne and menstrual irregularity.

Causes of the PCOS:

The causes of PCOS are debatable as it can arise from area that includes hormonal imbalance, prior history of the disease in the generation, genetic alteration, hyperandrogenism (estrogen and progestrerone).

Apart from these it is often thought that reverse level of LH and FSH (3:1) as a prevalent hallmark of the disease. The lack of ovulation due to the hormonal imbalance results in continuous exposure of the endometrial wall to estrogen causing excessive thickening of uterine wall resulting in cancer of uterus.

Common Symptoms of PCOS:

Symptoms that may indicate the occurrence of the disease include weight gain, irregular periods, pelvic pain, anxiety, hirsutism, excessive pain during bleeding, infertility. In severe condition it could lead to cancer.

Probable treatment of PCOS:

The common way of treating the disease is either pregnancy or menstruation with the aid of progesterone agent. Regular exercising and maintaining diet are some of the effective tools to improve the frequency of ovulation, lowering the risk of obesity and diabetes and also improves fertility.
